What Is It?
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is chronic backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus, causing heartburn, regurgitation, chest pain, and cough.
How Is It Diagnosed?
Clinical diagnosis in most cases. Endoscopy if alarm symptoms (dysphagia, weight loss, bleeding). H. pylori testing if indicated.
How Is It Treated?
Lifestyle changes (elevate head of bed, avoid triggers, weight loss), PPIs (omeprazole, pantoprazole), H2 blockers. Surgery (Nissen fundoplication) for refractory cases.

H. pylori breath test or stool antigen, upper endoscopy if indicated, pH monitoring.
