Osteoarthritis
What Is It?
Degenerative joint disease with cartilage breakdown, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion. Most commonly affects knees, hips, and hands.
How Is It Diagnosed?
Clinical diagnosis. X-rays show joint space narrowing, osteophytes. MRI if soft tissue injury suspected.
How Is It Treated?
Acetaminophen, NSAIDs, topical diclofenac, intra-articular corticosteroid injections. Physical therapy. Joint replacement for end-stage disease.
Tests and Imaging Typically Needed
X-ray of affected joint, CBC, BMP, uric acid to rule out gout, RF/CCP to rule out RA.
